Modern Pangea

I think if the world was pushed back into a Pangea, it would be worse. First of all if there was another war or attack for another country if might effect other places as well since we all be connected. Also the smog in china could spread to all the other countries, and we all have to wear medical masks.

London, England

I want to go to London, England. London is so beautiful and I've never got to see it in real life. Also I have cousins who live there so I could visit them when I go. Maybe when I'm older I could move to London and live close to my cousins. Its an Amazing place and I wish I could see it in person.

I love animals. My favorite animals are racoons, spide-rmonkeys, and anteaters. I love going to the zoo to see all the exiotic animals. But above all, i love anteaters the most. The first time i saw a anteater at the zoo i thought it was so cute, and knew right away that it would be my favorite animal.

4 1/2 Days Until Summer!

There are four a half more days until summer. There are four more days of testing and classes and waking up at six in the morning. After that there's one half of a day that's separating us from summer. This year has flown by so fast that before I knew it people were starting to count down to summer, but now summer being only four and a half days away it seems like there's four extra hours added on to every single day. I feel like it takes so much more extra energy to get yourself up in the morning or try to keep your eyes open during math class. Summer is so close we can almost taste it, but we still have to take finals in almost all of our classes even after M.A.P. testing which wore us out so much. We all need the break after 10 months of school. We need summer to come.

Dystopian Furture

"Live every day as if you've come back in time from a dystopian future to try and prevent everything from breaking." What if this was your life motto? If I truly lived by this I would constantly be trying to stop everything from breaking, from a car to a phone charger. I would be so focused on not heading into a bad future that I would forget to be living. I would try to keep everything to save up and I would probably be hoarding a bunch of useless junk. I would go crazy trying to do this, not realizing that its not material things we need.

Modern Pangea

If all the continents suddenly shifted and we were all connected, there would be mass chaos. War would break out, and there would be fights over the new property lines of the countries, everyone would be panicking. No one would know how to react to it, and there would be mass confusion.

Abraham Lincoln the Beat Boxer

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He was president during the Civil War, and aside from trying to stop slavery and being honest he had one special hidden talent. One day in the Oval Office, a man brought president Lincoln a boombox. There was no other thing like this at the time, so of course Lincoln was confused when he first tried to use it. The man showed him how simple it was to turn it on and off and how it works. He showed him the different stations for playing the music, but since no other stations had been made, the air was dead. So the man handed Lincoln a tape of music with only five songs on it. President Lincoln listened to these songs so much that he memorized the beats of the song and could soon copy them perfectly, becoming the world's first beat boxer.

My Lost Track Bag

On Tuesday I went to go help the high school with their meet. I was going to help rake and measure for the long and triple jump just like I had at the Early Bird Invitational. The night before I wasn't sure if we we're supposed to wear our track uniforms to help or not. I couldn't reach any coaches so I just decided to pack my uniform up in my sinch sack and take it anyway. When I got to school that day I was told that I wouldn't need to wear it. When school was over I walked down to the track and set my things down at the bullpen. I walked down to the other side of the field where the long and triple jump were and started working. At about 4:45 I asked my friend Shandon to go get my things. When he came back he asked and made sure that he had grabbed everything. I looked and said he had, even though I hadn't realized my bag with my track uniform wasn't there. Today I was supposed to run the open mile at the Desoto track meet. Now I don't know if I can or if I'll even be able to find my uniform.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is the best book I've ever read. In this book a young boy must go to an island to learn about his grandfather's past after finding old pictures while going through his things after he dies. He soon finds on this island that there is a secret passage, and when you go through it you go back in time. He finds a whole house of children with peculiar talents, such as levitating or holding boulders above their heads. The master of the house Miss Peregrine is a lady that can change into a bird. She creates the loop for the children to live in and hide from the monsters that are hunting them. In their loop, one day keeps repeating over and over again, making none of the kids age and forever keeping them the age they are. He soon find that he needs to help protect them and the adventure begins.

You have a Package

Another one came today. We have so many piled in the back of the house it's crazy. No one knows who is dropping them off, there's just a short ring on the doorbell and there they are. The package says "Whole Human." We don't even now what humans are. They're all weird with pale skin and long limbs, no of them look the same which is odd considering here, we all are the exact same. Some of them are starting to move like they're alive, but parents say not to touch them after we have set them down. They came with cushion on the bottom that suggests they're valuable. Right now it's a mystery, but I intend on solving it.

Jake

Jake is my dog, he is an American Mastiff who is about 150 pounds and three feet tall. My dad wanted a large dog for as long as I can remember, so in the spring of 2006 we we're put on a breeder's a waiting list. Later that year, on Christmas Eve my parents had left our house at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon and hadn't got back until 6 o'clock. When they got back my mom came in and told she had a very big surprise for us. She yelled out the door to my dad, and then he came in with the largest dog I had ever seen. At first I was scared because he was about the size of me, so I ran to the top of the couch. We learned that he came from a family who couldn't keep him anymore. Soon we became used to him and we're playing in no time. He used to drag my sisters and me off the couch playing tug of war, sometimes my dad too. Now Jake is eight years old, but he still loves to play.

Pentatonix Concert

On Christmas morning my sister and I were given Pentatonix concert tickets. We were excited, but after seeing the show last night it's nothing like we anticipated it to be. Pentatonix is an acapella group that preforms cover songs and some originals. When we got to the show at  the Peabody Opera House the stage was dim with purple lighting. Although they came out 20 minutes late, they definitely made up for it with the show. When they came out they preformed their Daft Punk medley and the whole room was vibrating. I was screaming so loud I thought that by the end of the concert I would lose my voice. They preformed a Beyoncé medley, and even did their Evolution of Music song from their Youtube video. Avi, the one of the group who preforms the bass parts, did his special talent, overtone. It's where you can sing two notes at once. One sounds very low, and the other one was like Mariah Carey whistle tone. Kevin, the beatboxer, played one of his original songs on the chello while he beat boxed and it was awesome. My favorite part though, was when they set their microphones down. The whole place got silent, not one person talked. They preformed their song Run to You without any extra help. You could hear them so well, it was amazing. My mom almost started crying. At the end they finished up with Can't Hold  Us, by Macklemore, then confetti went of, they thanked us and went off the stage. Then everyone started chanting, "PTX! PTX! PTX!" they came back out for an encore. They preformed Thrift Shop and Tonight by Fun. This concert will always be my favorite, and if they come back in town, I'm definitely going to see them.

Pride

For the past two days in class we have been watching Pride. In this movie a man named Jim Ellis starts a swim team in a recreational building that will soon be torn down. There are always kids outside playing basketball and when the pool is finished he invites them in. Soon they start practicing and slowly become a team, and they get a new addition to the team, a girl. They go to their first meet and lose to the other teams, being to cocky and thinking that they're better than the other white teams. While they are there, the other coaches and people in the stands treat them horribly, one even getting kicked in the head during a race and it not being called a foul. On the ride back they think nothing of it and blow it off, but Jim can't understand while they wouldn't care and talks to them about it, leaving the mood serious. The next day the kids are all practicing in the pool before the coach even wakes up. They start training and become a real team. Soon the recreational building is sanctioned to have meets, and many people showed up to the first one. The coach was very surprised by all the support their team got. Even a swimmer's sister who wants to tear down the building shows up for support. The team that showed up to race them cancelled and left due to some of the boys getting 'sick.' The Ref there didn't call it a forfeit because he also wanted to leave and called a reschedule. After that meet at their home, they went to more and were earning 2nd and 3rd places in meets. They were about to have an interview by the pool with news crew when they found the front hallway torn up and the words "we ain't done" on the wall in spray paint. They heard something in the pool and found three men in there who had previously tried to hurt two boys on the team. Jim started to beat them up, he threw one into the pool and held him under one of the boys from the team jumped in and stopped him. After this incident Jim lost faith in himself and they found out about an arrest record that he had. They went to the meet without coach because he put himself on probation because of his actions. At the meet they win two events against Mainline, a school that treats them like dirt. At the end they have 96 points which allows them to qualify for the top three places to win. The last race is a relay that will have four people swim from the team.  The team wins by a split second against Mainline, taking home the trophy with them. They overcome the racism and their own fears to come victorious over all.
In this movie they were treated so horribly by prejudiced people because of skin color. It would make me so angry because when they talked to them it was like they were uneducated, and how they looked down upon them. There was also the trouble with a man who was a the leader of a small gang, who one of the boys on the swim team had previously been apart of. It showed how easy it was for someone living there to be swept up into it and not being able to get out because of fear. This movie showed me how hard it was for African Americans in the 1960s.

When will I get a Vacation?

My family vacation has been cancelled many times. Last year we planned on going down to Florida. However, two of the three cars that we have broke down, leaving us with only a truck that could barely squeeze in six people. We had to use our saved vacation money to pay for the repairs that had to be done. So instead of going down to Florida, the furthest from home I went that summer was Potosi. We had also planned on taking at least half a week to go down to the Lake of the Ozarks to visit family, but that was cancelled due to my dad's work schedule. We're planning on going down to Florida this year, and hopefully that will happen.

QR Codes

Wat voor kleur heeft jouw QR code
A QR code is a bar code that can be scanned and read by a camera or smartphone. If you see them on boxes or commercials, usually you can scan them and they'll bring you to a coupon or special information. I have learned that creating QR codes is much simpler than you would think, and that it is fun to make something out of them. I like QR codes because there are endless possibilities for what you can use them for. They are a creative way to take something plain and turn it into a unique project or activity. QR codes are fun because you never know what will pop up when you scan over one. QR codes are the best!

The Magical iPhonus

If I could only keep one app on the magic iPhonus, I would keep the Remember All app. I would keep this because then when I get older I could have these memories saved and not worrying about losing them. If I could keep two apps, my other choice would be the Expandable Ear app. I would choose this one because I'm very nosy. I like to hear about other things going on and having this app would allow me to hear almost anything.

Coding

We are learning about computer coding in technology class, there are over fifteen courses with ten to twelve sub courses in them. We have been doing activities that teach us how to use coding and what it does. Some of the courses are very easy and you only have to spend a few minutes on each lesson. However, some lessons are very complex and are hard to understand. I enjoy doing the coding because I know I'm learning useful skills, but when I get stuck on a certain level it really makes me hate doing it.

What Adults have Forgotten

It seems, for most people, that when you become an adult, you forget what it was like as a kid. However, when I am an adult I believe I'll never forget what it was like to experience new things, and make new memories. I think it's important not to get stuck in the same way of life, and go out of your comfort zone every once in a while. You can't let greed or selfishness rule your life.

Indestructable Day

Cliff Diving Timelapse - 9 Wows
If I were indestructible for one day and could not feel pain, I would sky dive without a parachute, I would go jump off of a giant cliff into a lake, and I would go swimming with sharks. I would swim in lava, and hold my breath underwater for a long time. I would jump off of the Arch. If I were indestructible I would do crazy things so I could remember them forever.

What Color are You?

I believe that I am in a field of carnation mixed with lavender plants, intertwined throughout the field. An orange and tangerine sun sits in a sky and blueberry colored background, and there's cantaloupe dotting around the outside of the field. What color are you?

Norwegians are all Millionaires!

All Norwegians became millionaires from the savvy thinking of Norway's government. They started saving in a fund called Government Pension Fund - Global , and only withdrew 4% from it every year. The amount they have saved up is roughly  $828.66 billion in American currency. Now deciding to give it to the Norwegians, dividing the money up equally between all 5,096,300 citizens, each person is suddenly a millionaire!
Government Pension Fund - Global invested in oil exporting and 1% of the world's trade, so by saving up since 1969 it has acquired a lot of money since then. The Norwegians are paper millionaires because they will each get about 1 million dollars in cash. I believe that the United States does not have a fund like that because there are a lot of Americans, and any money we have saved goes toward the deficit.

Verrückt, World's Tallest Waterslide?

Verrückt is a water slide that is located in Kansas City, Missouri, but Verrückt is not your  average everyday water slide.  When on it you can go down a plummeting drop of  an estimated  17 stories more than 65 mile per hour. After the first drop you shoot over the next five story hill and then to the going down it to conclude the ride.
Brazil's Insano hardly stands close to the behemoth Verrückt. Insano is only 14 stories tall and 65 mile per hour when going down it. Next to Verrückt, Insano is small.
Jeff, the creator of Verrückt is known as the 'Wizard of Water' where he works. Jeff has created crazy rides such as uphill water coasters and inland surfing.
I would not like to go on Verrückt because I do not like heights, and if there's one thing that stands out about this water slide, it is its height. So no, Verrückt is not a ride I would ever like to go on.
After Looking at This Water Slide, It Will Make a Lot of Sense Why Its Name Literally Translates to Insane

Miniature Windmills

The horizontal axis wind turbine is an invention that will help take the power of wind and convert it to energy. The arduous task of making these small windmills was first thought about when Smitha Rao, contemplated harnessing the gusts of wind that blew through his back yard without placing in a wind turbine in his back yard. The turbine is small, only measuring 1.8 millimeters at it's thickest, 10 could fit within one grain of rice. Next to the small size would be the cheap manufacturing costs that allow it to be cheaper for the public. The small turbines are made from nickel alloy, and 1000 can be made from one wafer of alloy. While how much power the windmills can create remains disclosed, the inventors,  Jung-Chih Chiao and  Smitha Rao, assert that a couple thousand could power a family's communication and lighting system for a night.
These Ultra-Cute Micro Windmills May Soon Charge Your Devices - Kids News Article

  1.  The nickel alloy is favored because it is very durable and comes in thin wafers that can make up to a thousand windmills per sheet.
  2. Jung-Chih Chiao, the inventor, has not released them to the market due to the absence of a patent.
  3. Both inventors, Jung-Chih Chiao and Smitha Rao worked very hard on the prototype of the small windmill.
  4. Though the windmill is small, it can withstand strong winds due to the metal it's made from.
