Jake is my dog, he is an American Mastiff who is about 150 pounds and three feet tall. My dad wanted a large dog for as long as I can remember, so in the spring of 2006 we we're put on a breeder's a waiting list. Later that year, on Christmas Eve my parents had left our house at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon and hadn't got back until 6 o'clock. When they got back my mom came in and told she had a very big surprise for us. She yelled out the door to my dad, and then he came in with the largest dog I had ever seen. At first I was scared because he was about the size of me, so I ran to the top of the couch. We learned that he came from a family who couldn't keep him anymore. Soon we became used to him and we're playing in no time. He used to drag my sisters and me off the couch playing tug of war, sometimes my dad too. Now Jake is eight years old, but he still loves to play.

Pentatonix Concert
On Christmas morning my sister and I were given Pentatonix concert tickets. We were excited, but after seeing the show last night it's nothing like we anticipated it to be. Pentatonix is an acapella group that preforms cover songs and some originals. When we got to the show at the Peabody Opera House the stage was dim with purple lighting. Although they came out 20 minutes late, they definitely made up for it with the show. When they came out they preformed their Daft Punk medley and the whole room was vibrating. I was screaming so loud I thought that by the end of the concert I would lose my voice. They preformed a Beyoncé medley, and even did their Evolution of Music song from their Youtube video. Avi, the one of the group who preforms the bass parts, did his special talent, overtone. It's where you can sing two notes at once. One sounds very low, and the other one was like Mariah Carey whistle tone. Kevin, the beatboxer, played one of his original songs on the chello while he beat boxed and it was awesome. My favorite part though, was when they set their microphones down. The whole place got silent, not one person talked. They preformed their song Run to You without any extra help. You could hear them so well, it was amazing. My mom almost started crying. At the end they finished up with Can't Hold Us, by Macklemore, then confetti went of, they thanked us and went off the stage. Then everyone started chanting, "PTX! PTX! PTX!" they came back out for an encore. They preformed Thrift Shop and Tonight by Fun. This concert will always be my favorite, and if they come back in town, I'm definitely going to see them.

Pride
For the past two days in class we have been watching Pride. In this movie a man named Jim Ellis starts a swim team in a recreational building that will soon be torn down. There are always kids outside playing basketball and when the pool is finished he invites them in. Soon they start practicing and slowly become a team, and they get a new addition to the team, a girl. They go to their first meet and lose to the other teams, being to cocky and thinking that they're better than the other white teams. While they are there, the other coaches and people in the stands treat them horribly, one even getting kicked in the head during a race and it not being called a foul. On the ride back they think nothing of it and blow it off, but Jim can't understand while they wouldn't care and talks to them about it, leaving the mood serious. The next day the kids are all practicing in the pool before the coach even wakes up. They start training and become a real team. Soon the recreational building is sanctioned to have meets, and many people showed up to the first one. The coach was very surprised by all the support their team got. Even a swimmer's sister who wants to tear down the building shows up for support. The team that showed up to race them cancelled and left due to some of the boys getting 'sick.' The Ref there didn't call it a forfeit because he also wanted to leave and called a reschedule. After that meet at their home, they went to more and were earning 2nd and 3rd places in meets. They were about to have an interview by the pool with news crew when they found the front hallway torn up and the words "we ain't done" on the wall in spray paint. They heard something in the pool and found three men in there who had previously tried to hurt two boys on the team. Jim started to beat them up, he threw one into the pool and held him under one of the boys from the team jumped in and stopped him. After this incident Jim lost faith in himself and they found out about an arrest record that he had. They went to the meet without coach because he put himself on probation because of his actions. At the meet they win two events against Mainline, a school that treats them like dirt. At the end they have 96 points which allows them to qualify for the top three places to win. The last race is a relay that will have four people swim from the team. The team wins by a split second against Mainline, taking home the trophy with them. They overcome the racism and their own fears to come victorious over all.
In this movie they were treated so horribly by prejudiced people because of skin color. It would make me so angry because when they talked to them it was like they were uneducated, and how they looked down upon them. There was also the trouble with a man who was a the leader of a small gang, who one of the boys on the swim team had previously been apart of. It showed how easy it was for someone living there to be swept up into it and not being able to get out because of fear. This movie showed me how hard it was for African Americans in the 1960s.

When will I get a Vacation?
My family vacation has been cancelled many times. Last year we planned on going down to Florida. However, two of the three cars that we have broke down, leaving us with only a truck that could barely squeeze in six people. We had to use our saved vacation money to pay for the repairs that had to be done. So instead of going down to Florida, the furthest from home I went that summer was Potosi. We had also planned on taking at least half a week to go down to the Lake of the Ozarks to visit family, but that was cancelled due to my dad's work schedule. We're planning on going down to Florida this year, and hopefully that will happen.
